It’s also a city known to many as the ultimate vacation destination. But it’s also a great city to live in. With a population of only about 430,000, Miami is not among the biggest cities in the country, but it is one of the most important. Miami is a leader in finance, commerce, entertainment, media and international trade. In addition to working hard, people in Miami like to party hard and frequent many popular bars. If you are looking for some fun in the sun, a great nightlife, and live in one of the most important cities in the USA, you should definitely consider Miami.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere in Miami can vary depending where you are. Some areas are full of business people, bars, restaurants, and high rise buildings as far as the eyes can see. Other areas differ and are instead full of parks, schools, and families. The downtown area is likely to be busy, while many of the neighborhoods to the west will have a more relaxing vibe. Miami has a lot to offer, which makes it both a great city for visitors but also for for those who choose to live here.

As you could imagine with its proximity to the coast and its fantastic weather, Miami has a tropical atmosphere with palms trees and hot weather being the norm. Many people will come here as tourists and you will definitely see a lot of things around the city marketed towards these tourists as well.

Miami is among the most vibrant and energetic cities in the USA as well. Whether it is daytime or nighttime, weekday or weekend, you will always be able to find something cool or exciting going on. Miami is also a very diverse city both in terms of its population and its job market. Whatever you look like, wherever you came from and whatever you do, you are sure to be welcome in Miami.

History

While the Miami has area has been inhabited for thousands of years, it didn’t really begin to get developed until the late 19th century. The early 20th century saw an influx of people into Miami and the city prospered and began to grow. As the decades went on, Miami continued to become more developed and this development is continuing to this day.

Due to the fact that there are many different apartments and areas to rent around Miami, the cost of living and rent will vary a ton. If you love the beach and the constant action of the downtown areas, you are likely to pay over $2000 a month, while there are places in Liberty City and Brownsville that can be rented for under $700 a month. Overall, the median rent in Miami is just over $1000.

Things like safety, commute time, architecture, and proximity to nearby restaurants and bars all come into play when determining how much apartments will cost. You should be sure to do some research to figure out what is most important to you in an apartment or home. There are so many different options to rent in Miami that nothing is off limits. Whether you want to live in a modern high rise building with all the amenities or an older and more traditional home with some character, Miami will have something for you. With so many options at so many different price points in this city, there is a good chance that you will be able to find your perfect home here in Miami.

Getting Around

Getting around Miami is a breeze as there are many different options for people. By far the most popular method of getting around and commuting in Miami is driving. In fact, about 75% of Miami residents commute to work either by driving themselves or carpooling with others. Also, having a car is the most convenient way to travel throughout the city due to the size of Miami and its metropolitan area.

However, if you don’t own a car it is still very easy to get around in Miami. They have a very good public transportation system that includes a rapid transit system, a commuter rail, the Metromover, and many buses. These have various stops throughout the city and there is a good chance that no matter where you are, you are never too far away from a stop.

  • Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a 50 acre estate that used to belong to businessman James Deering. It now operates as a museum and garden area open to the public. It is simply beautiful and everyone in Miami should just visit it at least once.
  • If you prefer a more traditional type of museum, you definitely need to pay a visit to the Perez Art Museum. This museum is home to nearly 2,000 pieces and the focus of the museum is 20th century and contemporary art.
  • If you, your family, or your friends, love the outdoors and animals, you need to check out Jungle Island. This is an interactive zoological park that features animals from all around the world. This was also one of the first tourist attractions in Miami.
  • An underrated destination in Miami is the Wynwood Walls. This is a unique place which features large and massively colorful street murals made from different artists from around the world. You simply can’t find something like this anywhere else.
  • Miami has a reputation for being a great place for nightlife and it lives up to the hype. There are many popular bars and restaurants located throughout Miami and there is something for everyone’s tastes.
  • With miles and miles of beaches and waterfront views, it is never a bad idea to head out to the eastern point of Miami and catch some rays at the beach.
  • Other things you need to check out include the Art Deco District, Little Havana, Key Biscayne, Ernest Hemingway’s House, and Everglades National Park.
