CUNY Stella and Charles Guttman Community College Apartments for Rent in New York, NY

About CUNY Stella and Charles Guttman Community College

Founded on September 11, 2011, Stella and Charles Guttman Community College is a public community college in New York City. This community college offers associate degree programs with majors in liberal arts, sciences, business, human services, information technology, and urban studies. Stella and Charles Guttman Community College was the first new community college established by the CUNY system in over 40 years, making it an innovative and exciting project for academic developers. After receiving donations and developments from the time it opened, it has flourished and is home to many dedicated students.

Guttman Community College has a unique approach to its academic structure. First, the school offers a multi-step comprehensive admissions process which omits the need for a CUNY application. After registering with the school, the prospective student will have an individual meeting to understand better if Guttman is right for them. If it is, then they will be admitted. Next, they require all first-year students to attend on a full-time basis and be placed in learning communities to enhance collaboration, teamwork, and peer accountability. All first-year classes follow a structured course curriculum. There are also no remedial courses, as development support is built into the curriculum. Lastly, the school has an 18-week academic calendar, longer than the typical 15- to 17-week semesters most colleges have in the country.

Where are the academic buildings?

Guttman Community College has a wonderful campus in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. It overlooks Bryant Park and is near many MTA subway stops, such as the 42nd Times Square station and the 42nd Bryant Park station. All academic classrooms are located at 50 W 40th St, New York, NY 10018.

Popular neighborhoods to live in

Similar to most community colleges, there is no on-campus housing at Guttman. Instead, students live at home with family, friends, or independently. It is quite common to get an apartment with a roommate in a nearby neighborhood if it is within your financial means. Some of the most popular neighborhoods near the college are as follows: Astoria, Hell’s Kitchen, Gramercy Park, East Village, Midtown, Murray Hill, Rose Hill, and Manhattan Valley.
