West End is a popular neighborhood that has a lot to offer in various categories. A major part of its popularity is its location. Located between Beacon Hill and North End, the West End is not only super close to all downtown Boston has to offer but it overlooks the Charles River as well.

Both TD Garden, New England’s sports arena that hosts the Boston Bruins and the Boston Celtics, and Massachusetts General Hospital is located in the neighborhood.

In the 1950s, the Urban Renewal project was put into place to replace all homes and stores in West End with highways and superblocks of luxury towers. The residents of the West End could only watch as a big part of the neighborhood’s identity was taken away. While the number of residents decreased significantly due to the fact that homes and stores were demolished, the residential population is continuing to grow, which shows a neighborhood with a strong identity and potential.
Like most of downtown Boston, public transportation is a better option than driving. It’s not that driving around West End is hard, more that finding parking can be a hassle. And what’s really worse than finding parking when you have stuff to do. Get around on foot, bus, taxi, or the “T”- the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). Boston is blessed with a great public transportation system that get’s you to where you need to go without any hassle (most the time of course). It’s also the cheapest option of getting around, expect walking that is. You’ll have access to the Boston North Station that’s located in West End and Haymarket, Bowdoin, and Charles/MGH stations located just outside of West End.
