NYU Tandon School of Engineering Apartments for Rent

About the University and City

First established in 1853, the New York University Tandon School of Engineering carried a number of names until finally officially merging with New York University in 2014 to become the school's engineering school. Tandon is the second oldest private engineering and technology school in the United States. Its programs focus mainly on teaching the technical arts and applied sciences.

Where are the academic buildings?

While most academic buildings are located at the main campus at Washington Square Park, NYU Tandon has most of their academic buildings spread throughout the MetroTech Center located in Downtown Brooklyn. Most students are expected to make the commute to get to classes via subway, bike, NYU shuttle bus, or walking. Those who need to travel into downtown Manhattan for classes at the main campus are encourage to take public transportation or use the free NYU Shuttle Bus. Students can reach main campus by taking the A/C/F train (travel time is only around 20 to 30 minutes).

See the NYU Polytechnic Campus Map for further details

Where are the residence halls?

The Office of Residential Life and Housing Services currently supervises over 23 co-ed residence halls located in both New York and Brooklyn. Of those 23 co-ed residence halls, only two are located in Brooklyn by the NYU Tandon campus. While one dorm (Othmer Hall) is located directly on campus, the other dorm (Clark Street) is located about a 15 minute walk away from campus.

While both residence halls house First-Year students, only Othmer Hall offer housing to upperclassman students as well. While it is not a requirement to live on-campus, housing is guaranteed to any undergraduate student should they request it. Over 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students live within NYU residence halls.

Where do students live other than dorms?

If you don't plan on living in the Residence Halls provided by NYU, don't worry! You won't be alone. Over 64,000 NYU Tandon students are either commuting to class from their homes outside of Manhattan or are living off campus. Most commuters normally continue living near campus in neighborhoods in lower Manhattan or in Brooklyn neighborhoods that surround the MetroTech Center.

Regardless of where you choose to live, transportation is rarely an issue. Besides from the public transportation options located right by the Brooklyn campus, students are also able to gain access to a free NYU Shuttle Bus that runs all day and late nights as well. The shuttle bus stops at every dorm and certain academic buildings as well! There is currently only one free shuttle service (Route A) that runs from the Washington Square Campus to the School of Engineering in Brooklyn.

Where do alums live if they stay in the city?

For alums who continue staying in New York, most are spread throughout Manhattan and northwest of Flatbush, Brooklyn. Some popular neighborhoods for alums include Hell's Kitchen, Financial District, Upper West/East Side, and Stuyvesant Town - Peter-Cooper Village.

Many of NYU's current 470,000 living alums can be found all over the world in approximately 183 foreign countries. A majority of alums do not continue staying in the city after graduation.
