DESCRIPTION
Reach out today to schedule a tour of this incredibly rare opportunity in the heart of Chelsea at a pre-war historic Art-Deco Barneys Building by famed architects Farrar & Watmough.

Welcome to Residence 8K, a graciously-sized one bedroom apartment with many details preserved of its original pre-war charm; beamed 9' high ceilings and sunny, western exposures at one of downtown's most desirable addresses. The apartment is offered for rent for one year with an option to extend, furnished or unfurnished - the prospective tenant can choose some of the furniture items to stay in the apartment. Available for rent immediately subject to Board approval. Apartment features: an oversized foyer with a custom walk-in closet, a generously-sized living room which accommodates both living and dining with an oversized closet for storage; a windowed efficient renovated kitchen with a full-size dishwasher, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops and floors. The massive bedroom easily accommodates a king-sized bed and offers a separate seating area plus additional space for a home office if preferred, with another custom-designed lighted walk-in closet. One of the best features about this layout is that the bedroom and living room do not share a common wall which creates an expansive feel and a true privacy and separation between living spaces. Building Features: 161 West 16th Street is a well-maintained full-service cooperative that features a restored gorgeous Art Deco lobby, 24-hour doorman, live in super, porter, one of the most beautiful planted roof decks with an outdoor shower and panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline, laundry room and bike storage. The building is located on a quiet tree-lined street in the heart of Chelsea near the neighborhood's endless array of New York's finest restaurants, renowned art galleries, and boutique shopping that Chelsea is known for; close to Chelsea Market, Whole Foods, Union Square Farmer's market and the High Line Park. This incredibly convenient location provides an easy access to numerous transportation options: 1/2/3/A/C/E/F/M/L and PATH trains, and all that Chelsea, Greenwich Village, West Village, Union Square and Flatiron have to offer. The prospective tenant needs to provide the following for the Board approval: 1. Two most recent paycheck stubs or the most recent 1040 tax form; 2. Two personal reference letters 3. $350 check for processing the board application 4. $600 check representing a move-in deposit of which $300 will be refunded provided there's no damage to the premises. CHELSEA

Chelsea is a vibrant neighborhood from humble origins located on the west side of Manhattan between 14th and 34th street. With a ton of things to do, places to see, and some of the most luxurious apartments in the city, Chelsea is a neighborhood that's always looking for the next cool thing to add to the vibe of the area.

Fun Facts and History of Chelsea

Chelsea originally started out as farmland, specifically the farmland of British Major Thomas Clarke. Clarke named his estate "Chelsea" after a district in London and the name stuck ever since. In the early 1800's Clark's daughter sold the land to the city, and Chelsea became an industrial neighborhood.

With industrialization came working class immigrants, who worked the piers and helped build the row houses and low rise apartment complexes that are still around to this day. Thanks to its surplus of industries and piers, Chelsea soon became a slightly wealthy neighborhood. It was even the sight of the new theater district before…
