I hadn't rented in NYC before this week, but I had heard horror stories of unending searches for the "right place." That said, working with Weichert was amazingly easy. Our search took a total of three days after the initial meeting, and two of those were just approval and paperwork. My roommates and I ended up with a place we LOVE in the area we wanted that fits our needs perfectly. Alex Prose and Devan Banks were more than just professional and competent (as one should expect agents to be); they were completely on our side the whole time, from finding our "right place" to negotiating terms with our new landlord. If you go with Weichert (which you should because they have a megaton of listings in NYC), definitely ask to meet with these guys. We couldn't have asked for a nicer or more efficient team to take us on as clients.
Working with Weichert was a professional and successful experience from start to finish. Their realtors, Alex and Devan, were intelligent, kind, and thorough. Within three days, we had viewed and signed for a perfect apartment, thanks to their efficient and attentive business approach. Weichert and their staff have set us on a great path for our time living in New York, and I am very grateful for it. Highly recommend.
I worked with several terrible brokers before I met Alex Prose.
Alex was the only broker who was nice to me and didn't try to push my budget way up like everyone else did. Once he knew my situation, he showed me every apartment that matched my search. I didn't like any of them. But I knew he was the best and I trusted him. So we continued to look and kept our dialogue going.
Then he showed me a Bellmarc exclusive listing and it was the one. Despite having to pay a 15% fee, it was better and cheaper than any apartment we had seen with any broker. The only reason he didnt' show it to us is because of the broker fee and he knew that because of my situation it would be a lot to handle. Although we couldn't get the fee down, the apartment was so worth it and we're so happy. We're in a super prime locaiton, we have tons of space, and were not at the top of our budget. So I guess it works out.
I would gladly recommend Alex Prose to anyone looking to rent an apartment in the NYC metro area.
I moved to NYC to go to FIT. Alex sat down with me and went over everything I wanted in an apartment, and even though I only had less than 2000 for a studio, he got me an AMAZING apartment in the East Village (a neighborhood he lived in himself apparently).
There was a line out the door after we had finished seeing this place and he told me "Straight up, there won't be a better apartment than this, and we'd probably lose it if you didn't sign right now." He showed me everything that fit my budget, and I was lucky that I had seen some places before we saw this. Otherwise I probably would have thought he was just being pushy.
Well, we had to get all my paperwork and put down a deposit, which took 3-4 hours, and although he was on the phone the whole time with the other broker promising them we'd have it in, it seemed like they had a bunch of interest and we probably wouldn't get it.
He took me to a western union and was on the phone with my mom telling her how to get this deal done. We got down a deposit and held the apartment.
That's when the real problems started. My guarantors were having a hard time qualifying and the other agent was putting tons of pressure on us, because, as Alex had promised, it was the best aprtment on there.
Working with us to get Insurent, and working with the other agent to buy time, Alex got me a sick apartment with a doorman, laundry, and super cool modern condo finishes, all within my budget. He emphasized how lucky I was and how I shouldn't leave it until my rent went to $2500.
Having seen my friend's apartments, I now know that 1. he was right, and 2. there are honest, helpful brokers in NYC.
I met with Alex and his team after a series of disappointing attempts to find an apartment with other brokers.
This dude is a pro and took excellent care of us, helping us find a nice 3 bedroom apartment that fit within our budget. He opened our eyes to a new neighborhood as well and we can't thank him enough for that.
I would highly recommend Alex to any one looking to get an apartment.
