About the Gold Coast

History

After the Great Chicago Fire in 1871 the region's evolution began. It would go from scarcely populated and swampy to a stronghold of wealth. Originally "The Astor Street District", it took its name from one of the richest citizens in the history of the US, John Jacob Astor.
