DESCRIPTION
YOUR NEW HOME
Step inside and the first thing you notice is the light. Soaring ceilings up to 16 feet and oversized windows pull it deep into the home, and the sense of volume is immediate. This is a home that lives big, breathes, and gives you room to spread out. Underfoot: bamboo plank floors, warm and wide through every room. The kitchen is where it lands: stone countertops, stainless-steel appliances. The bath: elegantly lined in marble, with a custom vanity and oversized mirror.
The flex one layout is the whole point. A proper partition wall creates a private, cozy bedroom that takes a full-size bed and a desk with ease, while the living and dining space stays entirely its own: generous, open and framed by those windows. It is a true one-bedroom life, in a building most people assume is out of reach.
THE BUILDING
Standing since 1907, with interiors by Cass Gilbert. Residents have outdoor landscaped terrace, private dining room with chef's kitchen, bicycle room, a garage and a gym. The lobby is held by a full-time doorman, a live-in resident manager and valet service: the quiet luxury you feel every single day, and the reason a package is never a problem again.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
After the bustle of the workday winds down, FiDi shifts gears. The pace softens, the sidewalks open up, and what's left is a real neighborhood, one that belongs to the people who live here. Restaurants fill with regulars instead of lunch rushes, the waterfront turns golden, and you get the rarest commodity in Manhattan: room to breathe.
Weekends start minutes away at the Seaport, where the Tin Building's market halls, the restaurants along the cobblestones and rooftop concerts at Pier 17 have made the waterfront the most fun stretch of downtown. Shopping is world-class: Westfield World Trade Center under the wings of the Oculus, and Brookfield Place on the water for the luxury houses and the Hudson Eats hall. Groceries are the quiet flex. A 42,000-square-foot Whole Foods sits a block up Wall Street, with Eataly's Italian market at 4 World Trade just beyond, and Equinox has two clubs within walking distance.
And then there's Stone Street. Cobblestones went down on this narrow lane in the 1600s, when the brewers' wagons of New Amsterdam churned it to mud and the residents demanded something better. The low brick and granite counting houses leaning in on either side went up after the Great Fire of 1835, and the whole block is a protected historic district. Walk it on a warm evening and Manhattan falls away completely: lanterns strung overhead, long communal tables spilling out of Harry's and Adrienne's Pizzabar and Ulysses' until the lane becomes one continuous dinner party. It is also, quietly, the best place in Manhattan to catch a game, and the person beside you at the bar is as likely to be a trader or a founder as a neighbor. When you want to go bigger, Crown Shy sits at 70 Pine, Manhatta is sixty floors up at 28 Liberty, and Carne Mare and Delmonico's are both a walk.
The history you live inside is the last thing to mention and the hardest to beat. Federal Hall, where Washington was inaugurated, stands on Wall Street. The Stock Exchange is around the corner. Trinity Church, the Charging Bull and Fraunces Tavern are all a walk, not a trip, and Battery Park, Bowling Green and the Elevated Acre above Water Street give you three very different kinds of green.
GETTING ANYWHERE
This is one of the best-connected corners in New York. The 2, 3, 4, 5, J and Z all stop within a few blocks, with the R and W close behind. Five minutes north, Fulton Center gathers the A, C, J, Z, 2, 3, 4 and 5 beneath its glass dome, and an underground passage carries you on to the 1, the E and the PATH trains to New Jersey without stepping outside. Then there is the water. Pier 11 at the foot of Wall Street is an NYC Ferry hub, with the East River route reaching DUMBO, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Long Island City and East 34th Street. The free Staten Island Ferry sails from Whitehall.
