For those wondering why this neighborhood is called College
Point when there is no college, it's because one of the first
institutions in the area was a seminary called St. Paul's College,
founded in 1835. Said college shut down in 1850, but the name
remained as the area was developed.
In 1854, industrialists began to build factories in College
Point, which meant housing for the factory workers soon followed.
The results of these workers living here was that they created
their own paradise, even creating the first free Kindergarten in
the United States.
