Like other New Yorkers, you’re likely utilizing the city’s public transportation on a daily basis to get around New York City. One of these options includes the subway system, which runs through the different parts of the city, from the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, to Brooklyn. Folks who need to commute daily to work will often choose to live in a neighborhood that has an NYC subway stop that directly connects to work. During the last few months, we spent time going over the various train routes and neighborhoods along those particular subway lines and covered the J train route in our last article. Today, we’re moving on to the yellow local and express N train train route. We’ll go over each of the subway stations the N train stops at and discuss the best neighborhoods to live in on its route.
N train stops NYC
There are a total of 7 stops in Queens, 8 stops in Manhattan, and 13 stops in Brooklyn for the N train route. This route starts at the Astoria Ditmars Blvd stop in Queens and makes its way southward until Queensboro Plaza. From there, the N train crosses westward over to Manhattan at the Lexington Av/59 St stop. Now running through Manhattan, the N train continue westward till 57 St-7 Av and then makes its way southward all the way to Canal St. This is the last stop in Manhattan before the N train crosses eastward into Brooklyn at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. The N train then continues southwards before finally reaching its terminal station at Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

Best Queens neighborhoods along N train stops
Ditmars Steinway
Just slightly beyond the Astoria-Ditmars Blvd N train stop, is the sub-neighborhood of Ditmars Steinway. This neighborhood is located in the northern part of Astoria and is home to a large number of utility companies, warehouses, and commercial properties. The residential part of the neighborhood, mostly towards the southern portion of Ditmars Steinway is mostly residential with a large number of restaurants and shops running alongside Ditmars Blvd. Residents living here love how quiet it is and the close proximity to Astoria Park. However, its location right next to LaGuardia Airport also means heavier traffic and noise pollution.

Greenwich Village
The large neighborhood of Greenwich Village extends all the way from Houston Street to 14th Street and can be easily accessed via the N train at the Union Square stop. Greenwich Village is filled with lovely townhomes, row houses, brownstones, along with co-ops, condos and apartment complexes. The neighborhood is vibrant and draws in many New Yorkers and tourists alike. Plenty of restaurants, boutique shops, bars, and businesses are present in this neighborhood, making it a fun area to live in if you enjoy living in a vibrant and lively neighborhood.
Best Brooklyn neighborhoods along N train stops
Gravesend
The neighborhood of Gravesend is in the south-central portion of Brooklyn in New York City. Gravesend is mostly residential and quiet with the majority of commercial properties along Avenue U, Kings Hwy, and Coney Island Avenue. Additionally, the lower half of the neighborhood is home to the MTA Coney Island Yard where many trains are maintained and stored when not in use. It’s close proximity to Coney Island is a huge plus for many of its residents. Commuters can access the neighborhood via the three Brooklyn N train stops at Kings Hwy, Avenue U , and 86 St.
Sunset Park
The next Brooklyn neighborhood of Sunset Park runs alongside the Bay Ridge channel on the western part of Brooklyn. Sunset Park has a good mixture of residential and commercial regions and is home to a number of piers (including Bush Terminal Piers Park), Industry City, and popular commercial streets on 5th Ave, 7th Ave, and 8th Ave. Commuters interested in living here can access the N train via multiple stops including 36 St and 59 St.
