This block was built by hand in 1862, by architect Joseph Ohmeis, on land once leased from the Astor family. It still stands today inside a protected historic district. Inside, the proof is everywhere: exposed brick, hardwood floors, ceilings higher than most buildings around it. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances and a dishwasher; the bathroom is clean and updated. A washer and dryer sit right in the unit - a small luxury on this block.
