A rare opportunity to experience the grandeur of classic Brooklyn brownstone living. Set across the upper two levels of an elegant two-family residence, this expansive three-bedroom, two-bathroom duplex at 557 Carlton Avenue seamlessly blends historic architectural character, remarkable proportions, and the flexibility of modern living.
Dating to the early 20th century, the home is a celebration of Brooklyn's architectural heritage. Rich original hardwood floors, beautifully preserved woodwork, substantial moldings, soaring ceilings, and oversized windows create an atmosphere of timeless sophistication. Particularly striking is the magnificent curved wooden staircase, with its intricately carved balustrade and sweeping handrail, an architectural centerpiece that speaks to the craftsmanship of another era.
The lower level of the duplex is thoughtfully arranged for both everyday comfort and entertaining. A generously proportioned, front-facing living room is bathed in natural light, while the rear of the residence features a dedicated dining area adorned with an elegant crystal chandelier and an adjoining windowed kitchen with abundant cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. Conveniently located beside the kitchen is an in-unit washer and dryer, while a full bathroom with a bathtub completes this level.
Upstairs, the residence unfolds into an exceptionally spacious and versatile collection of rooms. The rear-facing primary bedroom offers a peaceful retreat, complemented by two additional bedrooms and a separate bonus room ideally suited for a home office, private library, reading lounge, or creative studio. A second full bathroom, featuring a glass-enclosed shower, completes the upper level. Throughout, the generous room dimensions and adaptable layout offer an uncommon degree of flexibility.
The location is every bit as compelling as the residence itself. Situated along one of Prospect Heights' quintessential brownstone-lined blocks, 557 Carlton Avenue places you at the intersection of Brooklyn's architectural history and its most vibrant cultural destinations. Barclays Center and Atlantic Terminal are just moments away, offering exceptional transportation connectivity and convenient access to Manhattan and beyond.
The celebrated neighborhoods of Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and Crown Heights are all within easy walking distance, along with the neighborhood's acclaimed restaurants, independent cafés, boutiques, and cultural institutions. Prospect Park, Grand Army Plaza, the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the Brooklyn Public Library's landmark Central Library are also nearby.
An extraordinary combination of historic character, generous living space, and an exceptional Prospect Heights address, 557 Carlton Avenue offers a distinctly Brooklyn living experience that is increasingly difficult to find.
