Because it isn't by the beach, the city is much less busy and not a massive tourist destination like many cities to the east and southeast. As a result, you get a much more family oriented "small-town" feel in Sunrise compared to places like Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, and others. However, don't take this as a knock on Sunrise. It has many great schools and parks throughout, which adds to the family-friendliness of the city.
