DESCRIPTION
16 Month lease.

This is a one bedroom apartment, 430 square feet, in excellent shape. The kitchen and bathroom were recently renovated with all new appliances and fixtures. The rooms are laid out railroad style, with a medium-sized living room followed by the kitchen and then a larger bedroom. This apartment faces the courtyard rather than the street, which has both pros and cons: on the one hand, it's very quiet (a great apartment for studying!) and stays cool in the summertime - on the other hand, the view is uninspiring. The ceilings are 91⁄2 feet, and there's an enormous amount of closet space: three closets in the bedroom plus a walk-in closet in the living room.

The apartment is located on the second floor of a six-story building; the building community is laid back and friendly, and we have the best superintendent in New York (seriously, he's terrific). Claremont Avenue is a beautiful, tree-lined street right next to Sakura Park and Riverside Park; it's a six-minute walk to Columbia and five minutes to the subway, with a dozen great restaurants right around the corner.

HARLEM

Harlem is enormous. Stretching from the East and Harlem Rivers all the way to the Hudson, Harlem has three micro-neighborhoods that make up this huge area. East or Spanish Harlem is vibrant and colorful, Central Harlem is energetic and cultural, and West Harlem is more suburban and chill. From 110th to 155th, Harlem has something for everyone.

Fun Facts and History of Harlem

Harlem is so huge that each spot has its own unique history. For example, West and Central Harlem were burned to the ground during the American Revolution, whereas East Harlem wasn't really developed until the 1860's. However, one fact remains consistent for all of Harlem: That the population of the area exploded once a prominent Black neighborhood was destroyed to make room for Central Park.

The Harlem Renaissance began around WWI and the cultural impact the neighborhood would have on the world began. Becoming a major player in the worlds of art, literature, music, and civil rights, Harlem became a mecca for…
