About Allen School - Brooklyn

Founded in December 1961 as the Allen School for Physicians’ Aides, the Allen School of Health Sciences aimed to offer quality education in Allied Health Programs to the Jamaica, Queens community. By January 31, 1980, Loretta Teich, who owned an employment agency, acquired the school. Upon reviewing the curriculum and operational methods, Teich discovered a major issue – students were graduating unprepared for the workforce. To address this, she introduced skill-based training into the curriculum, notably a Nursing Assistant program, enhancing students' competencies for employment.

Loretta's son, Robert Teich, played a pivotal role in the school's development, eventually leading to the expansion of a Brooklyn location. Initially, this new campus offered only the Nursing Assistant program, but by 1999, a Medical Office Assistant program was also available. Today, after nearly three decades, the Allen School of Health Sciences is a leading institution in Health Science education in New York City, with thousands of graduates from this third-generation family-owned school. The Brooklyn campus currently offers two programs: Medical Assistant and Nursing Assistant.

Student data

The Brooklyn campus currently has 184 full-time students. The student body comprises 69.9% Black or African American, 19.6% Hispanic or Latino, 2.17% Two or More Races, 1.63% White, and 1.09% American Indian or Alaska Native, with a retention rate of 66%.

Where are the academic buildings?

The Allen School of Health Sciences - Brooklyn is located at 188 Montague St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, in the beautiful Downtown Brooklyn. This central location is conveniently near the Court St and Jay St MTA stations, making it accessible for students commuting from various parts of the city.

Popular neighborhoods to live in

Bedford-Stuyvesant, Prospect Heights, and Brooklyn Heights, among others, are some of the most popular neighborhoods near the school.
