History

Lincoln Park is an affluent community area just north of downtown Chicago, named after the sprawling Lincoln Park. You may know Lincoln Park for the incredible zoo, the top-tier cuisine, or the parks it’s aptly named for. There’s an abundance of apartments with 57% of households renting their home. The average household of $115,774 makes it one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the nation. Considering this, there’s variety of affordable apartments for rent, many with great views of the lake. The enormous DePaul University has its main campus in Lincoln Park, so it comes as no surprise that 77% of residents are college graduates.

During the time following the Civil War a great influx of Polish immigrants made Lincoln Park their home, brought in by reasonable living prices accented by such a great location. In 1934 here, outside the Biograph theatre, the notorious mobster John Dillinger was famously shot by FBI agents. It endured the waves of boom and bust very well and Lincoln Park is now one of the safest and enviable Chicago neighborhoods to have an apartment in.

Atmosphere

A neighborhood known for its tree-lined streets, Lincoln Park’s allure has brought great people and together with unique luxuries. DePaul University in the north of the area means an influx of young, expressive individuals. It’s commonplace to hop on your bicycle or a Divvy to get from your apartment to work, as the neighborhood is full of young urban professionals that are environmentally conscious. Lincoln Park is a diverse arts and entertainment destination as well with a plethora of museums, top theaters and live music clubs to pick from. There’s no shortage of greenery in Lincoln Park, with seven miles of lake front parks and countless trails for runners and bikers.

While You’re Here

Come for the food, stay for the theatre. Dinner at the top-rated and triple Michelin starred ‘Alinea’ will require some advanced reservations; with the restaurant and your bank account, but you won’t find a mouth that says it isn’t worth it. North Pond embodies Chicago’s “city in a garden” epithet with a friendly green ambience. Catch a show at the historic Biograph theatre or the Steppenwolf theatre; the latter hosts fresh off-Broadway shows with worldwide acclaim.

A great time in Lincoln Park doesn’t have to cost you a month’s rent. The North Avenue beach has great scenic views of the city and plenty of space to play volleyball and your other favorite sunny day activities. If you haven’t been to the Lincoln Park Zoo yet, it’s worth checking out more than once. Besides being free and enormous, there are occasional concerts, and it’s open year round.
