Residents of South Slope enjoy a wide variety of activities from shopping, strolling in Prospect Park, thrift shopping at Vice Versa, chilling at Freddy's Bar, etc.

What’s Here?: South Slope is a residential extension of the coveted Park Slope address. New restaurants and bars are opening often, but mostly you will find this neighborhood a quiet reprieve from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. If you love to come home to be home, with a handful of quality restaurants, bars and nail salons nearby, then South Slope might be your speed.

Flat or Tall?: South Slope predominantly consists of low-rise, pre-war row houses that are about four stories tall. Newer, more modern buildings are shooting up to eight stories on 4th Avenue, but for now pre-war homes are more common. As development continues, the height of the buildings may change, with several nine to 14-story buildings proposed.

History: South Slope rests at the corner of Revolutionary War history. In 1776 American soldiers fought and lost the Battle of Brooklyn very close to South Slope’s boundaries. The Old Stone House, on 4th Avenue, is a lasting site of the battle where General George Washington is said to have retreated.

Activities: South Slope is walking distance from all of the shopping and restaurants of quaint Park Slope. The neighborhood is also celebrated for its proximity to the beautiful and vibrant 526-acre Prospect Park. Historic Green-Wood Cemetery is nearby where guided trolley tours take visitors through the graves of artists and musicians, inventors and Broadway greats.

Check it out: For incredible thrift store finds, Vice Versa is an absolute must. Find authentic Brooklyn style pizza at Giuseppina’s and Toby’s Public House, and beer and bocce ball at Greenwood Park.

For a farm to table, seasonal Brooklyn dining experience, try Top Chef Dale Talde’s Thistle Hill Tavern or stop in at Lot 2 and order the burger. Then hop over to Freddy’s Bar where no-nonsense drinks and a basket of tater tots will give you a feel for this relaxed Brooklyn enclave.
