Washington D.C. is the capital of the United States of America and is home to over 650,000 residents. While many think of only politics when they imagine Washington D.C., there is much more to the nation’s capital. The city is also a place full of culture, artwork, sports, and much more. If you are interested in renting or living in Washington D.C., be sure to check out the neighborhood guides and apartments on RentHop.

Atmosphere

Being that Washington D.C. is the capital of the USA and home to the White House, there is a definite sense of professionalism and culture throughout the city. It is home to hundreds and hundreds of politicians, embassies, offices, and more. Monuments and museums can be found throughout Washington and the historic feel and vibe of this city is undeniable.

Despite this, as mentioned in the introduction, there is much more to see and do in Washington that doesn’t revolve around politics and culture. There are many nearby restaurants in the city that are world class such as The Capital Grille, Fiola just to name a few. Also, despite the place being very business oriented, Washington D.C. is home to many great and popular bars to enjoy the nightlife including The 930 Club, Nellie’s, and Marvin.

The atmosphere in D.C. will also vary a little bit depending on where in the city you choose to rent and live. While some will be overrun with businessmen, politicians, and actions, others will be more laid back. Many neighborhoods are also full of parks and schools, which makes DC a suitable place to raise a family as well. Washington is also very diverse in terms of race and class, so you won’t have to worry about struggling to fit in. If you look, there is no doubt you could find your perfect home in Washington D.C.

History

Washington D.C. has a history that spans hundreds of years and it has been the capital city of the USA since 1790 and it is the only city in the USA that doesn’t belong to a specific state. The sheer amount of history that has occurred in this city is mind-blowing and a whole article could be written on that alone. That history, and the fact that Washington D.C. is a desirable place to live with a lot going on, makes the average rent here fairly high. In fact, the average rent is about $2,300, making it among the priciest places in the country.

So while the rent as an average is quite expensive, there is a ton of variety in D.C. In terms of costs, you can find cheaper places of course, and that will depend on the safety of the neighborhood, your commute to work, the age and style of the apartment, and other factors. However, you can also find more expensive options based on those same criteria as well.

There is also a lot of variety in terms of the type of place you want to rent. Considering the hundreds of years Washington DC has been around, you can find historic character buildings and apartments all around DC in many of its neighborhoods. However, if you prefer a more modern building with modern amenities, you can find that with ease as well. Whatever your preferences are (and what your price point is), you can find your perfect home or apartment in Washington D.C.

Getting Around

Getting around in Washington D.C. will vary depending on where you are and where you are going within the city. While driving is an option, the roadways and the fact that there are many pedestrians can make it difficult. While some neighborhoods are suitable for driving, others will definitely not be.

Instead, the easiest and most popular way to get around the city is via public transportation. Trains, buses, and the subway are all great options to get in and around Washington D.C. quickly. Also, walking and biking is a good option if the weather is decent as Washington is a pedestrian-friendly place.
