Atmosphere

Downtown Boston has a truly unique atmosphere as it combines the old and the new. Often, you can have a building from hundreds and hundreds of years ago appear right next to a modern high-rise apartment building. The area is almost constantly full of energy and is the most active neighborhood in the city. Its central location makes it popular for people living in and visiting Boston.

The neighborhood is home to everything you would expect from a downtown neighborhood in a city as old as Boston. Historical landmarks can be found throughout the neighborhood, as well as a ton of modern skyscrapers and businesses. There is also dining and shopping this neighborhood that would rival the best in the world.

While the urban aspects of this area dominate it, there a number of parks and waterfront views within walking distance of this neighborhood, which helps to give it a natural feel as well. It truly does offer living that could be attractive to people with a wide number of tastes.

History

The land where this neighborhood resides has been inhabited for thousands and thousands of years. The area was first colonized by European settlers in 1630 and over the years and centuries, it grew to be the center of one of the largest cities in the USA.Skyscrapers began popping up in the 19th century and transformed the area from a residential area into the commercial and business powerhouse that it is today. Around this time is also when theaters began to pop up and add art and culture into the mix of things happening in Downtown Boston.

Numerous important historical figures lived here and a number of important things have taken place here such as a number of Revolutionary war battles, important meetings, and more. The history of this neighborhood is truly unmatched in the USA and you could spend hours reading about the different happenings here throughout history.

Being that this is the busiest and most central location in all of Boston, the cost of living is high. While things like food and entertainment will likely be a lot, travel will likely cost less as there is a good chance you may work in one of the many office buildings in this neighborhood. However, the cost of living skyrockets when you account for the rent. The rent in Downtown is among the highest in Boston, which makes it among the highest in the USA.

Rent in this neighborhood can have quite the range, depending on what you seek and where exactly you live. However, if you live in this downtown neighborhood, you are only minutes away from all the action in the city and your commute/travel costs will be significantly less than if you had to commute an hour or more every single day, so that can help to soften the blow.

Getting Around

Driving a car is really not an advised option in Downtown Boston. There are a few parking garages, but they are extremely expensive. As for parking on the streets, that is basically non-existent.The preferred method of travel in this neighborhood is taking the subway.
