Kovan was born and educated in England but has also lived in Singapore and Hong Kong. He graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in mathematics from Oxford University and obtained a PhD in mathematics from NYU. He has worked as an astrophysicist, a teacher, a medical researcher and also an equities portfolio manager at a Hedge Fund; he also tutors mathematics around the city and knows its neighborhoods and schools very well. Kovan is a property-owner in Murray Hill and is therefore keenly attuned to the New York City real-estate market.
