DESCRIPTION

Spacious true one bedroom in an elevator building with a full time doorman - faces south overlooking an ivy strewn brick courtyard. Each room contains windows and is impeccably finished with wood floors, trim, & crown molding. Sequestered and quiet, the unit is filled with natural light year round. High ceilings and exposed structural details underscore the classic New York feel, size, and uniqueness that is simply unattainable in more recent constructions. The foyer contains two closets, one walk in and one shelved, with plenty of functional floor space for additional coat or shoe racks and entry benches. To east of the foyer, the bedroom fits a king sized bed and boasts an eight foot long floor to ceiling closet along the north wall while still preserving ample room for a dresser and pair of bedside tables without overcrowding. Even with the pictured furnishings, the current tenant has room to store their bike against the west wall without obstructing passage around the bed to the double windows.South of foyer, the subway tiled bath contains a separate full bath and standing shower and extra large medicine cabinet. The living room, kitchen, and dining area are located on the west side of the unit, just to the right as you enter. An eight foot counter, high enough to be furnished as a bar, separates the living space from the kitchen. Appliances include a dishwasher, wide refrigerator, built in microwave, and full sized stove and oven. The twenty two by twelve foot living space easily fits a full couch, office area, entertainment center, and dining table. Unlike many larger units, the exceptional size of the apartment is uncompromised by its location. London Terrace is closer to nearby grocery stores, public transportation, the Hudson River park & High Line, Chelsea Piers, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Chelsea Market. The vibrant artistic community ingrained in the area through the Cherry Lane, Joyce, and Irish Repertory theaters and renowned Chelsea galleries remain convenient without being so close as to be disruptive.

Fun Facts and History of Chelsea

Chelsea originally started out as farmland, specifically the farmland of British Major Thomas Clarke. Clarke named his estate "Chelsea" after a district in London and the name stuck ever since. In the early 1800's Clark's daughter sold the land to the city, and Chelsea became an industrial neighborhood.

With industrialization came working class immigrants, who worked the piers and helped build the row houses and low rise apartment complexes that are still around to this day. Thanks to its surplus of industries and piers, Chelsea soon became a slightly wealthy neighborhood. It was even the sight of the new theater district beforeā€¦
