THE APARTMENT It's a one-bedroom apartment up one flight of stairs in a small pre-war building with a friendly and attentive live-in super. The door opens into the hallway, with the bathroom and bedroom on the left, followed by the living room and kitchen. The bedroom is cozy. Currently it's situated with a full-sized bed (raised for storage underneath, which came in clutch), tall dresser, standing mirror, laundry basket and garment rack in the room. The living room and kitchen are bright and airy, with two east-facing windows that bring in amazing morning light. And there's exposed brick! The living room can accommodate a regular-sized couch, coffee table, accent chair and small desk or table. The kitchen has generous cabinet space, and easily fit my kitchen island for additional counter expansion. WORTH MENTIONING Pets are allowed upon aproval. The apartment has been kept very clean and is pest free. LOCATION The apartment is located a 3-min. walk from the 2/5 trains at Sterling Street and 3 blocks from the B/Q/S trains at Prospect Park. There is an express bus stop and Citi Bike docking station one block from the apartment as well. The neighborhood is lively and diverse with a strong community vibe. Great local dining scene with fantastic independently-owned cafes and restaurants within short distance (Glou, the wine bar on the corner, is lovely). And of course there's Prospect Park, just a scenic, 10-minute walk away.
Just below Prospect Park is the residential neighborhood of Flatbush. Quiet and calm, yet still close to the action, Flatbush is a popular neighborhood with families and young professionals alike due to its proximity to the park, fabulous restaurants, and easy access to other parts of the city.
Established in 1651, Flatbush went by the name of "Midwout" when it was still a young Dutch Colony. Once the British took over in 1664, Flatbush became the central area of the new King's County, even being named the county seat. It would remain this way through the 1700's and most of the 1800's being a large hub for merchants and farmers.
Flatbush was incorporated into the larger city of Brooklyn in 1894 and subsequently turned into a residential neighborhood after 1898 when Brooklyn became a borough in the Greater New York City. Construction on new apartment complexes, mostly mid-rise art deco buildings, happened quickly as subway lines came to the area…
