COBBLE HILL
Classy and hip, Cobble Hill is a neighborhood with beautiful
brownstones and great restaurants. Surrounded by Carroll Gardens,
Boerum Hill, and Brooklyn Heights, this is one of the most sought
after neighborhoods in the borough.
When Cobble Hill was colonized by the Dutch, the area was used
as farmland and a fort. The fort would stay standing throughout the
American Revolution, and was one of the places George Washington
retreated to after the Battle of Long Island.
Cobble Hill was made part of Brooklyn in 1834. In the 1850's,
Brooklyn became extremely popular, and Cobble Hill built a ton of
row houses that are still standing to this day. By the 1880's,
Cobble Hill was packed with middle and upper class residents.
Cobble Hill escaped most of the negative moments NYC faced
during the 20th century. An influx of immigrants kept the
neighborhood afloat during the depression and a revitalization
effort saw brownstones being fixed up before theā¦
