DESCRIPTION
About the place:
We have a big, sunny apartment with hardwood floors, high ceilings and huge windows on a tree-lined street one block away from Fort Greene Park. The room available is average sized and you can see from the photos can fit most furniture. The room has a closet and will be unfurnished. There is additional storage available. There will be second room available Nov 1.

The apartment itself takes up a full floor of a prewar building so it's big. It has 4 bedrooms and two full bathrooms (so you only share a bathroom with one other person), as well as a large kitchen with a dishwasher, comfortable living room, and a laundry/storage room with a washer and dryer IN the apartment. No more schlepping your laundry down the street. Sadly no pets are allowed.

The apartment is a 5 minute walk from the C at Lafayette or the G at Fulton and a a 10-minute walk from Atlantic/Barclays, Nevins and Dekalb Ave with NINE subways: 2, 3, 4, 5, N, Q, R, B, and D. There are also bus stops less than a blk away on Lafayette and DeKalb Aves.

About us:
You would be sharing with 3 others. We are relaxed, creative professional women over 30--a personal chef/writer/actress, a marketing consultant, and a fine art professional/writer. We enjoy each other's company and sharing the occasional glass of wine but mainly do our own thing. We generally keep the common areas tidy and would expect the same of anyone moving in. Our hours vary a lot and sometimes some of us work from home.

The details:
We pay $1500 each in rent monthly plus utilities (electricity and internet) usually under $50 monthly. We also have a fantastic cleaner who comes every 3 weeks or so ($30 each). A $1500 security deposit is also required per our landlord.

About you:
We are looking for someone employed and responsible, who will stay for the full year and can easily pay the rent on time.
We are open to all genders. We are looking for one person to live in the room, no couples, though of course occasional overnight guests or visitors are cool. We don't bring the party home and it's a non-smoking house but we are all friendly and sociable and looking for the same.

FORT GREENE

Surrounded by The Brooklyn Navy Yard, Downtown Brooklyn, Prospect Heights, and Clinton Hill, Fort Greene is a hip neighborhood that is great for young professionals and families alike. Rife with historic brownstones, this neighborhood feels like home.

Fun Facts and History of Fort Greene

Fort Greene is named for Revolutionary War General Nathanael Greene, who constructed a fort in the area in 1776. After the war, the area was used to house workers of the new Brooklyn Navy Yard, though several small farms were also still present from the original colony.

Slavery was outlawed in New York in 1827, which allowed the black population of Fort Greene to grow as many people moved to the area seeking work in the Navy Yard. The farmers of the area sold their land to this population and they developed the area as a haven for the abolitionist movement, hosting speakers like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass.

During the 1900's, Fort Greene experienced a cultural boom, opening BAM in 1908…
