Home to one of the first-ever skyscrapers, Flatiron is named
after one of the most famous buildings in NYC. This area is
extremely popular with tourists and is full of shopping

building wasn't built until 1902, and is considered one of NYC's

district, even being called the "Toy District" at one point due to
several shops that sold quality goods for children.
The neighborhood became designated as Flatiron in 1985 thanks to
some creative real estate developers seeking to popularize the
neighborhood. This attracted many residents and businesses seeking
