Neighborhood:
For years, River West was little more than a fly-over zone between Downtown and the trendier Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhoods. However, River West has experienced a blossoming in recent years as developers sought to refurbish the neighborhood's shuttered factories into loft-style condominiums, meeting the growing demand for quality housing near downtown and Fulton Market. Cool and professional but just short of traditional, River West retains evidence of its factory history while embracing a modern, urban aesthetic.
The western side of the neighborhood offers many food options, with several restaurants lining Milwaukee Avenue. Sandwich options for those grabbing lunch on the go, while diners and pizzerias provide more generous portions for diners looking to enjoy a meal. Coffee shops specializing in premium blends will also appeal to workers ducking out of the home office for a quick pick-me-up.
Art lovers are sure to enjoy the galleries throughout the neighborhood, giving them several avenues to enjoy a cocktail hour on a Friday night while perusing photographs, prints, and other creations from local artists. Afterwards, drop by one of the bars for creative discussions, trendy atmosphere and classic cocktails.
The many yoga studios and fitness centers in the area will allow you to start your day with some treatment for both your body and mind. Take it a step or two further by sampling one of the dance studios, or give your legs a break by relaxing with a book at a cozy cafe. Feel free to get some coffee to go, then take a walk by the railroad tracks to see a great example of Chicago's tough industrial spirit.

The Goose Island neighborhood of Chicago is an artificial
island, and the only island on the Chicago River. The North Branch
of the Chicago River and the North Branch Canal surrounds this 160

Manufacturing District in 1990, but the surrounding land shares the

renting for well over $2,000 per month, and two-bedroom apartments
at least $3,000. Goose Island is currently in a period of
reinvention, referred to as Goose Island 2.0, Silicon Island, and
Innovation Island.
Chicago's first mayor, William Ogden, created Goose Island when
his excavating company cut a path through the Chicago River between
North Avenue and Chicago Avenue in pursuit of brickmaking clay. The
Ogden's Canal was formed and later rejoined the river, isolating
this piece of land in the process. The island became heavily
industrialized; with grain elevators, several…
