Moving apartments? What are the do’s and dont’s?

moving

Moving to a new apartment is an exciting time in a person’s life and can open up so many more possibilities for us. However, moving can also be one of the most painstaking and annoying things to do. Between packing up everything you own, transporting it, and unpacking it at your new apartment, moving can be quite the chore.
Thankfully, there are some things you can do to make your move a little bit smoother. On the other hand, there are also some things that some people do that make their move a lot more difficult than it needs to be. In order to help your move be as simple as possible, this article will look at a few “dos” and “don’ts” when it comes to moving into a new apartment.

Do

1. Pack smart

By far the most frustrating part of the moving experience is packing up your life and moving it somewhere else. Packing, however, can be done extremely well or extremely wrong. When you are packing for a move, you need to be smart about it. You should pack the things you will need soon at an arm’s reach, and the things you don’t need a bit deeper in the moving truck. It is also a good idea to pack similar things together, as it will make unpacking and organizing your new apartment even easier. Also, be sure to label everything, to ensure nothing is lost or forgotten.

2. Stay calm

While moving is fun and exciting, it is also a very stressful activity for many people. It can be a lot of handle and there are a lot of moving parts that go into a successful move. All of this can lead to people losing their cool and freaking out a bit during the move. However, this is a bad thing, and can really hurt the morale and spirits of everyone involved in the move. Instead, try and remain calm and trust that the move will be over soon and then life will be back to normal.

3. Know the layout of your new apartment

When unloading for your move, it is generally a good idea to put boxes of items in the room where they will be going. For example, you will want to put clothes and such in your bedroom, kitchen utensils and gear in the kitchen, and so on and so forth. In order to do this effectively, you need to know the layout of your new apartment, so you know where to put things. You should also be sure to take measurements and photos of your space so you can make sure everything you are bringing will fit correctly.

Don’t

1. Don’t leave everything until the last minute

When you are busy with finding a new apartment and trying to find the right deal, it can be easy to put things off. And unfortunately, things like packing and planning are generally the things we leave to the last minute. This can make things incredibly hectic on move-in day and can vastly increase your chances of leaving something behind. As soon as you know when and where you will be moving, you should start to put some non-essential aside and get them ready to be boxed up. The less you need to deal with on the day of your move, the better.

2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

As we have mentioned before, moving is a difficult task and can be very stressful and time consuming. However, there is no need to do it alone. There is no shame in asking your friends and family members to help you out with your move. There is a good chance that they will be more than willing, and it can severely cut down the amount of time it will take you to move. People will most likely be willing to help you anyways, but it couldn’t hurt to offer them some pizza or other snacks for helping.

3. Don’t try to do everything on the first day

When you move into a new apartment, it can be tempting to want unpack and do everything on the very first day. However, that is a lot of work and can really overwhelm a person. Instead, it can’t hurt to slowly unpack over time. Also, there is no need to fill all of the space in your new place immediately. When some people move from a smaller place to a larger one, many of them want to buy a bunch of furniture or other accessories to “fill it out”.

Hopefully the tips, hints, and guidelines included in this blog post can help your next move go as smoothly as possible. Moving is a stressful time, but by preparing correctly and doing the right things, it can be much less daunting.
