Prospect Lefferts Garden, located off the southeast section of Prospect Park, is a beautiful residential neighborhood with gorgeous brownstones and great views of the park. The diverse population brings life and great food to this neighborhood.
Once part of the Town of Flatbush, Prospect Lefferts Garden was home to the Lefferts Estate, the home of the Lefferts family. In 1893, the Lefferts sold their property so the city could build homes for it’s growing population. The town was incorporated into Brooklyn in 1894 and again into New York City in 1898.
A building frenzy occurred between 1900 and the 1960’s. The beautiful homes made the area very popular with wealthy families and immigrants alike. It became popular again in the early 2000’s due to the unique architecture and the creation of several historic districts. Today, Prospect Lefferts Garden is a peaceful community that’s still sought out by a variety of people.
Prospect Lefferts Garden is mostly brownstone row houses and mid rise apartment complexes. High rises are few and far between here. That said, taller brownstones and apartment complexes can be found near Prospect Park.
