Juilliard School Apartments for Rent

Julliard School

About the University

The Juilliard School, aka Juilliard, was established in 1905 and is known as one of the world's leading music schools. Juilliard was first founded as the Institute of Musical Art by Dr. Frank Damrosch who created the institute as a way to ensure that Americans musicians wouldn't have to go abroad to advance their studies in music. The college currently trains over 850 undergraduate and graduate students in areas of study such as dance, music and drama. Admission into Juilliard is extremely competitive (more so than schools like Cornell University!).

Notable alumni include Robin Williams, Kevin Spacey, Alan Greenspan, Kevin Conroy, etc.

Where are the academic buildings?

Juilliard is located at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, close to Central Park on the Upper West Side. The Juilliard School entrance can be accessed at 155 West 65th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. It is easily accessible via the 1,2,3 or A,C, or B,D train lines.

Where are the residence halls?

Students attending Juilliard will have two options for living, on-campus at the Meredith Willson Residence Hall or off-campus. Although first time students are required by Juilliard to live on campus, by the time their second year swings around, they will have the option to either re-apply for housing or move off-campus. The Meredith Wilson Residence Hall is located less than 5 minutes' walk away from the main Juilliard School academic building in the Samuel B. and David Rose building. The residence hall houses around 348 students.

For most students, going to class is as easy as pie. Most students will walk to class. Located near public transit, it's also extremely easy for students to travel to other parts of the city for work, internships, or other extracurricular activities.

Where do students live other than dorms?

Other than the first time students who are required to live on-campus, most Juilliard students choose to live off-campus in surrounding neighborhoods or in neighborhoods in outer boroughs. Most students will choose to live in neighborhoods such as Hell's Kitchen and Upper West Side. The city can be expensive, but if you share an apartment with a roommate, you can cut costs significantly.

Where do alums live if they stay in the city?

Juilliard alumni are usually found all over the world and nation traveling and performing. However for alums who choose to make the city their homes, there are several different neighborhoods for them to choose from. Freshly graduated Juilliard alums may choose to live in neighborhoods such as Upper East Side, Hell's Kitchen, East Village or Lower East Side. These alum will also choose to live in neighborhoods outside of Manhattan. For alums who have been in the city longer, they'll generally migrate towards neighborhoods such as Upper West Side, Chelsea, or West Village.
