A neighborhood in the East Bronx, Morris Park is a residential neighborhood full of young professionals and students. Surrounded by Pelham Gardens, Pelham Bay, Little Yemen, and Allerton, this area is surprisingly quiet given its young population.
Though it's home to two great schools, Morris Park is named after John Albert Morris, who built a very popular race track in 1889. The track existed until 1910 when horse racing was outlawed in New York.
The neighborhood was a quiet residence full of families until 1953 when the Albert Einstein College of Medicine opened next to the Jack and Pearl Resnick branch of Yeshiva University. These two institutions began to draw younger crowds to the area.
Today, Morris Park is equal parts families, young professionals, and students. The younger population is expanding, as housing prices go up and university attendance increases. It’s a peaceful community.
The majority of the neighborhood is taken up by Yeshiva University and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. However, outside of those institutions, the neighborhood is mostly flat row houses and mid-rise apartment complexes.
This neighborhood began, and remains, very family friendly. While there are two large schools here, the students don’t really make a lot of noise. The area is clean, safe, and a bit idyllic. It’s almost like living in a small town separate from NYC.
This is definitely a residential neighborhood. To the point where there aren’t too many restaurants and bars. What is here is very good and convenient. With easy access to the rest of the borough, Morris Park is a great place for those seeking privacy and silence.
There are a ton of families still living here. While young professionals and students continue to move here, the area is super family friendly. There are good schools, some of the best hospitals in the borough, and access to a ton of green spaces. Overall, Morris Park is great for families.
The New York City subway system provides access to Morris Park via the 5 train.
Biking is pretty popular here. There are almost no Citi Bike docking stations to speak of, but the streets are wide and traffic is light.
Driving is popular in this area. Parking is ample and traffic gets lighter the farther you get from the larger schools.
