Atmosphere

Due to the location and the tropical climate of Miami Beach, it is perfect for those who love the beach and the sun. Popular bars are located throughout the area and there is always a lot of action going on with thousands of tourists here at any given time. Think of this as a more sedated version of Miami, still close to enough to the action, but far enough away to relax.

When you think about the laid-back and relaxing beach vibes of Florida, you’re probably thinking about Miami Beach. While there are some quiet parts of mainland Miami, it is also a sprawling center for business, finance, culture and entertainment, which means a lot of work goes on in addition to the fun.

Also, while the official population of Miami Beach is only around 90,000 people, it will feel like quite a bit more due to the visitors and tourists that flock here for the picturesque beaches and resorts. There are also many popular bars and clubs in Miami Beach, such as Wet Willie’s and the Mango Tropical Café, that are perfect for any party-goer. For those who aren’t into partying, there are plenty of cool restaurants and cultural destinations to be seen here too.

Your choices of rental options here will also vary. Due to the history in Miami Beach, there are plenty of older and more traditional homes or buildings you can choose to live in. However, due to a lot of development, there are also a ton of newer and modern options as well. While there may not be as many high rise apartment options here as there are in downtown Miami, they can still be found. With enough real estate options throughout Miami Beach, there is a good chance you will be able to find your perfect home.

History

The first structure to be built on Miami Beach was the Biscayne House of Refuge way back in 1876. In the late 1800s, investors saw potential in developing this area as a beach resort, and in the early 20th century, that plan started to take effect. Miami Beach became a city in 1917 and wealthy tourists begun to come vacation here. Over the years, development continued and now Miami Beach is one of the premier vacation and resort destinations in the USA.

The cost of living in Miami Beach largely depends on where you decide to live. While things like gas and groceries will be fairly normal throughout, rents will differ quite a bit. This is largely based on proximity to nearby restaurants and clubs, safety of the neighborhood, the commute and of course, the style and age of the apartment or home you rent. In general, the average rent in Miami Beach is quite more expensive than almost anywhere else in Miami.

Getting Around

While driving a car is incredibly popular in Miami, Miami Beach is largely a different story. While still over 50% of those in Miami Beach drive to work, the dense and urban nature of Miami Beach still makes it difficult. The streets are very pedestrian-friendly and often full of people, which doesn’t bode well for drivers.

As a result, public transportation is a vital part of life in Miami Beach. There are many routes that connect Miami to Miami Beach and allows for easy commutes between the two. Even if you just want to get from one area of Miami Beach to another, the public transit lines will be more than sufficient.

However, both walking and biking around Miami Beach are also great options due to the gorgeous weather and the pedestrian-friendly nature of the city. Also, biking in particular has become more popular in recent years due to a public bicycle sharing system that was launched in 2011.
